Irish Flute and Whistle
This class will explore tone development, playing with lift and tapping foot while playing, integrating ornamentation into tunes (vs “adding later”), working on phrasing/where to breathe, switching from one tune to the next, and building confidence to start tunes at sessions. Improvement is the goal—but we will work gently, and with simpler tunes. We will learn tunes by ear, so please bring a recording device and a sense of adventure. Sheet music available ahead of time on request. Both Irish (wooden) flutes or silver/Boehm system flutes welcome.
Trad Singing
Trad up your singing! Learn ornamentation and stylistic moves that will help you turn ANY song into a trad ballad. Sing along with simple chorus songs, and learn a session song to share at your next song-friendly session (or family party!). Listen to recordings of a wide variety of ballad singers, and learn what makes their music beautiful and authentic to them. Figure out what’s authentic for you.
