Greetings, friends of Portal Irish Music Week. We hope that this email finds you safe and healthy during these very troubling times!

It is with heavy hearts that we’ve come to the decision to cancel our PIMW 2020 physical camp, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our first priority is for the safety and well being of our students and staff, and as you know, a good percentage of the people that attend PIMW are in an age group that is at greater risk from this disease. On top of that, we were faced with the logistical problems of social distancing in a place where space is an issue, people are lodging with strangers, and all the meals are buffet style. We did discuss some ways that we could tackle these issues, but when summed up, it would become prohibitive to try to pull it off in a successful fashion without endangering the health of the people in attendance.

But all is not lost! We have started discussions with our staff members about celebrating the 10th PIMW with some virtual events! We’re huddling together (virtually) as a staff in the coming weeks to plan out ways that we can make our virtual events something truly special. You can expect to receive details about our Virtual PIMW activities and festivities by the end of the month, so stay tuned!

So where does that leave you if you’re registered for 2020? You will have several options for your camp deposit:

  1. Request a refund directly from Susan. We know that not everyone is on the most stable financial situation right now, so if you need the money back, we will do that.
  2. Leave your deposit as a deposit for our next camp. This option guarantees you a spot at our next physical camp, which we’re hoping can take place in 2021.
  3. Apply your deposit toward our Virtual PIMW this October.
  4. Donate your deposit to PIMW.

You don’t have to decide just yet, before we announce the virtual festivities we’re planning. But if you need the money back, you can contact Susan directly, and she will process your refund!

This is a severe disappointment to those of us that pour so much time and effort into keeping our unique little camp alive, and we’re sure that you’re feeling the same way! But we believe that our PIMW friends are like family, so we will work as hard as possible to help bring some of the magic to you still this fall!

Sincerely,

Susan, Pete, and the entire 2020 PIMW staff
