Greetings, friends of Portal Irish Music Week!
Well, it’s August already, which means that this year’s camp in Kingston, NM is rapidly approaching!
We’ve polled our instructors and put together the list of Core Tunes for this year’s camp. The goal behind this list of tunes is twofold, first, we want to give you some tunes that you can have in common with other players during the sessions at the camp. And secondly, we encourage the instructors to show you how they play these tunes during their classes, and show you how you might approach the tunes on your instrument. If you already know any of these tunes, that’s great! If you don’t know the tunes, it’s certainly not mandatory that you learn them, but they are all good tunes to add to your repertoire!
Recordings of the tunes (and core tunes from prior camps) can be found here: https://portalmusicweek.com/uncategorized/core-tunes/
We hope that you’re all as excited about this year’s camp as we are! And there are still spots available in some of the classes, so if you have friends that are Portal-curious, have them reach out to us at portalirishmusicweek@gmail.com.
Sincerely,
Susan, Pete, and the entire 2024 PIMW staff.
