Rather than learn new tunes, we’ll focus instead on giving an authentic nyah and pulse to the tunes you already know. I’ll demystify where and when to slur, what notes to emphasize, how to do pedal bowing, and how to invent variations. We’ll also go over cuts, rolls, triplets, smears, and other articulations. Also, since Mr. Conway has the Sligo style covered, we’ll explore the lyrical fiddle styles of East Clare, sussing out the bowings and musical ideas of P. Joe and Martin Hayes, Frances and Mark Donnellan, and Paddy Canny. We’ll get into the nitty gritty details, but we’ll also spend lots of time playing so you can latch on to the pulse and feel it in your own two hands.
