Trad Guitar
This class will concentrate on issues of backing traditional Irish music on the guitar. We’ll learn rhythm & feel as well as appropriate harmonic choices. Different voicing approaches will also be discussed. All common tunings are welcome – standard, dropped D, DADGAD, etc – but players should be able to change chords while maintaining a steady rhythm. Music reading is not necessary.
Irish Bouzouki
This class will explore the role of the bouzouki – octave mandolin, cittern, bouzar etc – in Irish music. We will be working in GDAD tuning and will discuss chord voicings, harmonic accompaniment, counter melody & touch on playing tunes. Students should be comfortable with fretted stringed instruments, but specific bouzouki experience is not required.
